Our Next Meeting is January 3rd 2012
Well with the holidays I fell asleep at the switch and have not lined up
anyone to present for our January meeting so we will be starting the new
year off with on open discussion of whatever y’all want to discuss. Bring
your tough problems or your cool tips and tricks. Remember Mr. Neil was good
enough to block us out into lab a so you can bring your food and eat in the
room with the concrete floor. See you at 6:00pm we will get serious at 6:30.
Until then Happy New Year!

Our Last Meeting was December 6th 2011 A couple of months ago I got a note from my pal Grey "Gramps" Lancaster asking me if we had any interest in seeimg him show off the new HomeServer (Gramps is the first ever HomeServer MVP) and how to run multiple instances of it in Hyper-V on an HP MicroServer. Gramps will also be showing DPM so you will get to see the full range of Microsoft backup offerings. I said of course, when do you want to come out. Well he was busy for October & November and we had StorageCraft already lined up, so he said how about December. I said you got it. So for our meeting on December 6th Gramps will be showing off a few of his favorite toys as he likes to call them :>)
Also Grey has
gone through the necessary paperwork to become an OEM (not system builder
but full-fledged OEM) with Microsoft and will be marketing his own brand of
WSSE box to a select group of partners and will have one of the prototypes
with him to show off to us. ECPI has arranged for us to use the room with the concrete floor, so you can bring your dinner with you if you like. Hope you can make it, should be a lot of fun!

Our Last Meeting was November 1st 2011 While I was at SMB Nation in Las Vegas I bumped into the gang from StorageCraft and harrassed them about neglecting us for so long and guess what, our pal Matt Rutter is coming out to do our November meeting. StorageCraft has lots of new stuff to show off, it should be a great meeting. I know a few of you have had questions lately, so bring them along and let make it an interactive session, they are the best for all of us. StorageCraft also has a new and improved partner program, how do I know you ask, because I helped shape it :>) Due to the rules about food in the classrooms, I turned down their offer to buy dinner, it was just going to be to much of a hassle and distraction, so eat before you come or you are welcome to eat in the lunchroom, see note below.
Please remember you are welcome to bring food or drinks with you,
but
you must eat them in the cafeteria,
not in the classrooms anymore, due to new carpeting. If you want to eat your
din din in the lunchroom get there at 6:00PM. The actual meeting will start
at 6:30pm. Meeting Space compliments of

October 4th 2011
I will still be on the road between
SMB Nation
and the SMB MVP
Roadshow, and Kay Tatum has once again stepped up to be your
stand in group leader, thank you Kay! For October, one of our members John Zielke would like to lead an open discussion of favorite apps y'all use. So please bring a list of your top 5-10 favorite apps or tools and be prepared to discuss what you like about them. This type of open discussion always ranks near the top when I pole you guys about what kind of meetings you would like, so here is your chance, sorry I will not be there, I like these as well.
Also Kay will have some exciting news to share with you at the
meeting, she is under strict NDA until then.

September 6th 2011 Jonathan Cogley is the Product Manager and CEO at
Thycotic Software which is headquartered in Washington DC and makes

Server is a web-based password vault for storing privileged passwords. Over
30,000 IT administrators worldwide trust Secret Server with their
infrastructure passwords. Secret Server also integrates with AD so you can
apply permissions for access to passwords and it can even change passwords
for servers, network devices and workstations automatically across the
network.

At Our Meeting August 2nd 2011 We will be hosting a stop of the International SMB MVP Community Roadshow sponsored by HP & Microsoft and produced by SBSmigration.com. This is a going to be a big meeting for us and we will be taking advantage once again of the Regus Conference Center next door to ECPI. You will need to register for this event as we will likely sell out and I want to make sure you don’t get turned away at the door, so please register early. Registration is open at smbmvptour.com/register . You can get more information about the tour at smbmvptour.com. Food will be provided by the sponsors. Here is the news blurb; The Triad SBS Group is proud to host a stop of the
International SMB MVP Community Roadshow for our August meeting. This is a
chance to hear first-hand from our peers in the field how they are
implementing the New SMB Stack from Microsoft and see it actually demo’d on
current shipping HP Hardware. This is not a canned sales pitch, this is a
live demo by some of my fellow SMB MVP's on real world scenarios they are
deploying today. Each stop on the tour will be a little different as the
presenters change as the tour progresses and they also have to flexibility
to shape the discussion to fit the local audience. The format will follow
our normal 3 hour meeting, 30 minutes to eat (food supplied by tour
sponsors) and mingle, 120 minutes of presentation and 30 minutes of
networking to close the meeting. Presenters: we are lucky to have two
outstanding MVP’s presenting at our event, first possibly the most awarded
person in SMB IT Amy Babinchak of Harbor Computing & Third Tier and also SBS
MVP Cliff Galiher who is an independent consultant and also works for Third
Tier in his spare time. (Note: If you are a group leader and would like to look into having the tour stop at your group see http://www.sbsmigration.com/it-pro-community/signup.php and follow the instructions there. Also watch for a direct mailing from Jeff Middleton with more details.)

July 5th 2011 After last month's meeting a few of us were talking in the parking lot (the famous meeting after the meeting) about who used the advanced features of LogMeIn and Dick Snow offered to do a demo of some of them including Ignition . So this month he has agreed to do that demo and then we will have a random access session after that where you can ask your questions of the group and/or share any tips you find useful. Yes I know it is the day after the holiday, but that is when you are supposed to get back to normal, so I hope to see many of you there being normal :>)
Please remember you are welcome to bring food or drinks with you,
but
you must eat them in the cafeteria, not in the
classrooms anymore, due to new carpeting. If you want to eat your din din in the lunchroom get there
at 6:00PM. The actual meeting content will start at 6:30pm.

June 7th 2011
We would took a look at
Windows Storage Server R2 Essentials
previously known as code name Breckenridge. This is a server based on the
common Colorado technology under the hood for SBS 2011 Essentials (Aurora)
and Windows HomeServer 2011 (Vail). If you are looking for a backup solution
for your SBS 2008 or SBS 2011 Standard this will fit the bill. Microsoft
heard us when we said we needed a solution that was not called HomeSever and
stepped up to the plate and delivered WSSE. We will also have some time to
discuss current issues you may be having.
Please remember you are welcome to bring food or drinks with you,
but
you must eat them in the cafeteria, not in the
classrooms anymore, due to new carpeting. It will take me a while to set
everything up so if you want to eat your din din in the lunchroom get there
at 6:00PM. The actual presentation will start at 6:30pm.

A couple of weeks ago
I presented
Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 to Amy's brand new IT Pro Group
see blog post
and it was very well received. I figured I would do that same presentation for
my own group for our upcoming May meeting . I would not want my peeps to feel
cheated :>)

At Our Meeting April 5th 2011
Post Meeting Update: We had a pretty good turnout with the weather and all,
a few of you who could not get to the meeting asked about recordings. Their
will be a virtual event on 4/13/2011 where you can get the content you
missed, register at
When I warned you last month that this meeting would sellout fast, even I
was surprised at just how fast. The SBS 2011 Partner Road Show is going to be
doing our April meeting we had already booked 58 attendees well past the 30
seat limit of our regular meeting space. I went back to Microsoft and they
have authorized some additional funding for a larger space so we will be
meeting in the building next door to ECPI. If you have not registered yet,
we have 2 slots still open, but cut off is today 4/4/2011 at 2:00pm Eastern.
Please Note the location for the April meeting is the Regus Building
At Our Meeting March 1st 2011 I was out of town at MVP Summit and MVP Nation so Kay has offered to run the meeting which seems appropriate since JR will be doing the presentation. Just think of it as an evening with Performance Dimensions, Inc Here are the descriptions of
the two applications JR will demo'd
SmoothWall Express Firewall 1. Be simple enough to be installed
by home users with no knowledge of Linux 2. Support a wide variety of network cards, modems and other
hardware 3. Work with many different connection methods and ISPs from
across the world 4. Manage and configure the software using a web browser 5. Run efficiently on older, cheaper hardware 6. Develop a supportive user community 7. Use sponsorship from SmoothWall Limited to further these
goals Zentyal - The Linux Small Business Server Finally Microsoft UGSS (User Group Support Services) would like you to fill out a short survey before the end of February CLICK HERE for the survey or HERE for more details.
At Our February Meeting It had been quite a while since we had a member to member meeting, and these have been very popular in the past, so for February you brought your tough problems and the group put on their thinking caps and solved them for you with a little give and take. All questions related SMB Business and/or Technology were fair game. I also gave a sneak peak at the new Windows MultiPoint Server 2011 and now some of you are as anxious for it to RTM as I am,

Our January
Meeting
Due to some major
miscommunications (probably my fault) between, Karl Palachuk, Intel, Dave
Sanders and myself it has turned out that our Intel Hybrid Cloud meeting is
happening on the right date in the wrong city. I spoke to Dave and Karl and
everyone is bending over backwards to work this out. So based on your wiliness
to help as well, we are going to make it a joint meeting between CITPG and TSBSG
and meet in the Charlotte location on our meeting date.
Karl has asked that you please register on
HIS SITE to confirm your attendance and
be eligible to win the Grand Prize, a Lenovo TS200v Server. See
HIS FLYER for more specifics about the
event.
For more information about the venue and directions please see the
CITPG WEBSITE it says food is $7.00
but Intel is picking up the tab.
If you plan to eat please make sure to
click the CITPG link above and check the box for food so Dave has an accurate
count for the chef. Yes that's right CITPG has it's very own chef, see what you
can do with a huge membership!
It will say the cost is 7.00, but worry
not, Intel is sponsoring the food completely, as long as you register!
I am sorry about the requirement for dual registration for this
event, but it is out of my control.
Thank You Again To Everyone For Your Flexibility With The January
Meeting Arrangements.
PS next month things will be back to normal and we will be back
home meeting at
ECPI, topic ytbd
Our normal meeting day is the first Tuesday of each month, we meet at
6:00pm, come join us and be a part of SBS Land. This is not intended to be a web user group.
