At Our December 2008 Meeting
Yes that is right we started with the
Dec 2, 2008 meeting at our new home located at You will need to arrange for your own food, there is a pizza & sandwich place across the parking lot, here is their MENU, I spoke to him and he said they would be happy to deliver to us at 6:00pm which is when the close. So if you are interested call in your order, the number is on the pdf.
We had a
real treat, Ben Yarbrough who was a lawyer in his last life before starting
Calyptix spoke to us about E-Discovery. Here is a little explanation
in his own words; At Our November 2008 Meeting Yes it was on election day, we had Scott McConnell from Calyptix come in to show off their new revamped UI and AD integration in the new release (version 2) of their firmware for AccessEnforcer. It was a split presentation we also had Steve Woods from Xerox who stopped by to introduce us to a new offering around Managed Printing Services. This looks to be a great program and a real money maker for SMB resellers and consultants. Here is a quote from our PAL Mark Crall"I strongly encourage anyone with an established managed services clientele that is seeing the increase of printer/copier companies marketing networking services to those same customers to give this strong consideration" This was a great meeting I was sorry to have to end it at 9:00, but both Scott and Steve were both caught in the parking lot a post meeting Q&A.
At Our October 2008 Meeting I was not able to attend the October meeting. I was slaving away on the west coast, but Scott, our fearless co-leader was there bright eyed and bushy tailed. Scott held an open session, for the unusually lightly attended meeting. Rumor has it that it was a really good meeting for those who attended; they actually got thrown out because they ran so far over time the restaurant folks wanted to go home :>) JR also reported on SMB Nation, he felt it was getting too large (my view also) and that the content had swung too far towards sales, he thought it need more tech content. Well there is no such thing as too much tech for HA :>) Fire Mountain Family Steakhouse 1180 S. Then we dove into the SBS 2008 answer file tool and some of the pre requisites for migrating to SBS 2008. Greg Burgess from New Horizons was a now show, I will confirm with him that they are on board for us to start holding our meetings there in January. Fire Mountain Family Steakhouse 1180 S. At Our Augus t 2008 Meeting James Wirth of Team CNS presented Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V. James will be a few minutes late, however we have a brand new sponsor New Horizons Computer Learning Center, Starting with the Jan 6, 2009 meeting, we will be holding our meetings at New Horizons in Greensboro which is off I-40 at Gallimore Dairy Road James is the Columbia Group Lead and did a terrific job earlier this month presenting in Charlotte. He is also doing his presentation in Upstate SC on July 24th. So he should have all the kinks worked out by the time he gets to us :>) We will get see how easy it is to introduce virtualization to our clients on the latest platform released from Microsoft. Come join us on August 5th, it should be virtually enlightening! Fire Mountain Family Steakhouse 1180 S. Main Street, Kernersville, 27284, 336-996-0456 Keep an eye on our website at www.tSBSg.org for updates OH YA I would be remiss if I didn't mention SMB Nation's Fall Conference --------------------------------------------------- At Our July 2008 Meeting Well we dogged the bullet with the Fourth of July Holiday this year and we met before everyone lite up the grills. As promised I did a walk through of the public beta so those of you who have not seen Cougar (or SBS 2008 as it is now known) could get a first hand look. Also for those loyal members who actually showed up for the meeting, I gave out logons so they could poke around remotely until I needed to take it down for a new private build. And since SBS 2008 runs on Windows Server 2008 we made it part of our ongoing launch event and give away the last of our launch goodies. So there you have it, two great reasons to show up for this meeting besides just dropping in to visit with friends and colleagues! --------------------------------------------------- At Our June 2008 Meeting
and the Syspine implementation of it.
At our May
2008 Meeting we had We had Ben Yarbrough & Lawrence Teo from Calyptix Security Corporation who will be came in to show their AccessEnforcer line of Security Appliances. As you know SBS next will have no ISA or RRAS and so will require some sort of security in front of it. This may just be what you are looking for, hope you were able to join us.
According to my pal Jason Harrison of
Here is a bit about the presenters and the presentation At Our April 2008 Meeting We had Sharon Chebatoris from Zenith Infotech. They have their North American HQ in Pittsburgh PA. Zenith provides Managed Services infrastructure AND Back Up Disaster Recovery solutions to small to medium IT Service Providers. Zenith does NOT have direct contact with YOUR end clients. They specialize in ways to scale your business while dramatically lowering the service delivery costs associated with managed services. Sharon will be attending training on some new products, so we will get to be the first to hear the new pitch. If for any reason you can't make the meeting contact Sharon at sharon.chebatoris@zenithinfotech.com as they have some additional meetings planned for our area. Of course if you miss our regular meeting we will require notes from your mom as well as your doctor :>) Fire Mountain Family Steakhouse 1180 S. Main Street, Kernersville, 27284, 336-996-0456 ---------------------------------------------------- At Our March 2008 Meeting We had the long awaited Symantec presentation. Scott McClung is responsible for the Carolinas midmarket territory for Symantec. He explained the new focus Symantec launched on sub-1,000 employee customers in April to meet the growing needs from the customers and partners that represent this very large market segment. They have enhanced the partner and customer experience in this space with additional tools, focusing on the message of "complete Windows protection", and by adding local and inside teams to support the midmarket. He also went over the Symantec EndPoint Protection Suite, BackUp Exec and the new partnering opportunities with Symantec. A bit about Scott in his own words, "I've been with Symantec (started with Veritas) for nearly 7 years now and moved to Charlotte to take this role in June of last year. I'm certainly excited to help you and your colleagues learn what we're doing to help you better help your customers and I look forward to the 4th!" Scott and Symantec were nice enough to buy Din Din for us, fulfilling both our appetite for food as well as our appetite for knowledge. ---------------------------------------------------- At Our Febru ary 2008 MeetingIn February we had a good round table
discussion and then I was able to share some of what I learned in Chicago at the boot camp
put on by Intel featuring their
new Intel Modular Server Platform. Everyone was intrigued with this new product,
I wish I could have had one to demo there instead of just the pictures from the
marketing DVD they gave us. This is some really cool technology and in my mind a natural fit for the upcoming release from Microsoft called Windows Essential Business Server which needs a minimum of 3 servers just to install but will most likely end up being 4 or 5 if you do a full suite and add a Terminal Server. The Intel Modular Server tops out at 6 compute modules, so that would allow the entire EBS Suite, a TS and a stand-by module for redundancy! With it's 14 bay internal SAN the only thing you need to add is a back-up device. Fire Mountain Family Steakhouse 1180 S. In April we have Sharon M Chebatoris coming down to talk to us about Zenith Infotech's offerings. ---------------------------------------------------- At Our January 2008 Meeting In January we had Chuck Traywick drive up to talk to us and he presented on 2 topics, first WSS 3.0 for Small Business and then Virtualization. He just did this presentation in SC and a similar one for the Charlotte SBS group and was very well received by both of them. I just peeked through the slide deck and the reason I think he was so well received was there aren’t many slides, it is mostly demo :>). Chuck is the owner of Infotronics. They do networking, consulting, development and are focused on the SMB segment. Well all the nay sayers said I should cancel the meeting as it fell on the first day of the year, but we managed to have a gret meeting with 18 folks present even though it was the first. |
